Over the term we have learnt about immigration and aboriginals and Torres strait by looking at stories of families  fleeing war or others doing things to get right for the aboriginals and Torres strait  islanders.For my project I did Eddie Mabo and we managed to complete the presentation on time and we answered a lot of our questions from our question matrix.I did my presentation with Atticus. We made a power point with some information but we had most of our information on a word document.

Three facts that i found interesting

I found that a person called general Pinochet scared lots of immigrants from Chile in 1973 and 55 boats in total came to Australia from Vietnam after the war and lots of students went on a bus trying to get aboriginals rights.

Two things you understand

I understand it was hard for the people effected by WW2 because their homes were destroyed and all their belongings were missing and they had nowhere to go.I also understand Vietnamese people had trouble trying to get to Australia after everything was destroyed back in Vietnam after the war.

I would like to know what was the total amount of people affected by WW2.

Most important things i learnt

The most important things iv’e learnt are how lots of people were affected by war and what war can do to a person.I also learnt lost about Eddie Mabo and what he did for aboriginal and Torres strait islanders

How did i learn it

I learnt it by researching the topic of Eddie Mabo and doing a presentation on him.I also took notes and listened to other peoples presentations about other things related to immigration. We have also looked at the topic of immigration for the last term and going to different classes and going on and excursion to the immigration and Melbourne museum to learnt about stories of people.

On the 15th of April all the 5/6 went by public transport to the Melbourne museum to look at the imagination and aboriginal bit of the place.We first put our stuff on trolleys then head of inside the museum.We went to a section and got a sheet with questions about aboriginals,we got in groups and went around trying to answer the questions around the place. We watched a short video with holograms of people on the screen and they spoke for a couple of minutes then we headed off to have some recess before we headed to the immigration museum to look.

We got to the museum and put our bags in a cage like locker in an old fashion stone room even with the stone archways which look very cool.We headed up some stairs to an old room to get a little book lit from a women then she sat us down and spoke to us about immigration then in classes we headed off into the museum and saw stories about people migrating to different countries.There were all different room with different stories and activities like see what things people would of migrated in and what it was like.We soon headed back to school.

On the 20th of February we started training for our gala sports competition and the rest of the 5/6 practiced for their sport which were cricket, volleyball, bat tennis and softball.we practiced every week on Friday for bat tennis and sometimes at lunch and recess with our teams always getting better.

On Friday 6th February we headed St monikers  to play bat tennis.on the first day we walked up to the school and sat down for half an hour then all schools went to the courts and a man explained how the day would work and what was going to happen. When the siren went we headed to the courts to start playing.

My first match was vs st Vincent’s boys doubles which we lost because they were very good.We headed to our bags and sat down until our next round.the next round we vs another boys doubles from Essendon north and we won 7 to 9.

Unfortunately our teams were a bit messed up so we headed back to the park then back to school a bit early and waited for everyone else to arrive for the results with everyone doing very well for their first week of gala sports.

The next week on Friday the 13th we came back for the finals and to see who would win.we started well with winning a game but our next  we loosed. Soon the final began and we played one match but lost 9 to 8 so  and I had to switch to mixed doubles but it was fine.  We didn’t make it to the next round of the finals.We did the same thing as . Our last time which was head to the park then head back to school for the quick results.

We did this fun and to help be healthy It was a fun day in the end with us coming 8th on the ladder out of 12 and everyone having a great day over the 2 days at the gala sports competition which our sport was bat tennis
